Students performing during the inaugural Jazz Festival in 2023

Alliance High School (AHS) proudly announces the second annual Jazz Festival set for Thursday, April 18 at 7 p.m.

Jazz and music fans of all ages are welcome to attend the event to hear performances from:

  • Alliance Middle School (AMS) Jazz Band

  • Matt Stemple and the Canton South Jazz Band

  • Dave Dickerhoof and the Carrollton High School Jazz Ensemble

  • Craig Carnes and the Sandy Valley Jazz Band

  • Alliance High School Jazz Orchestra

  • With special guest Bobby Selvaggio and the Kent State University (KSU) Big Band

Each school will perform a few songs in the jazz genre leading up to KSU Big Band performance.

“I am super excited to be hosting the second annual Alliance High School Jazz Festival,” said Billy Sheak, an Alliance City Schools band teacher. “This is a great night for our hard working students to share the stage with some local musicians as well as some college level musicians. This year, I am fortunate to have my middle school jazz band, along with my high school jazz orchestra performing.”

The AHS Jazz Orchestra started in September of 2022 and has been growing ever since. The orchestra consists of over 20 students and is led by Sheak. The students’ interest in jazz has grown over the past few years prompting the addition of the Jazz Band at AMS.

“Come on out and hear some great blues, funk, fusion, bop, swing, latin and much more,” Sheak encourages.

The AHS Jazz Festival is free and open to the community to attend.
