Our first graders are settling into our Reading Roots classrooms, where they are learning the skills necessary to become solid readers.  Students are reviewing letters and sounds, utilizing partner strategies, and learning writing strategies so that they are able to connect with the text. They  had fun reading and doing activities using the book Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. The book teaches the students that their names are special and wonderful! Students completed many activities with their names including crafts, poetry, and games.   First graders are also learning geometry using the pattern block templates to compose a new shape from smaller shapes.
