Student Art Show

The Alliance City Schools annual student art show will be displayed through the month of April. Rockhill and Parkway displays will be in the children's section.
Safety First Program

As part of Aultman Health Foundation's mission to "Lead Our Community to Improved Health," we are excited to bring our Safety First program to your school. The Safety First program provides children's bicycle helmets and Bicycle training to all Stark County first graders in an effort to prevent head injuries.

The program began in 2005 with Aultman's neighborhood schools and last year we worked with all of Canton City Schools. As a result of such positive feedback, Aultman has decided to provide the Safety First program to all first graders in public and private schools in StarkCounty in 2008.

The program focuses on obeying traffic laws and why wearing a bike helmet while riding is so important. Kids promise to be safe on their bikes and in return receive a free bicycle helmet that will be properly fitted. In addition, they receive an educational coloring and activitybook to keep.

Special Veteran's Day Program

We had a very special Veteran's Day program at Rockhill on Veteran's Day.
Chuck Gross, grandfather of third grade student, Rachael Wagner spoke to the students about Veteran's Day.  Mr. Gross is a Vietnam War Veteran.  He explained to the students what a veteran is and told about his experiences during the war in Vietnam.   Mr. Gross came dressed in his army uniform and also displayed other items used during his stay in Vietnam.  The students thoroughly enjoyed his presentation!

Fall Fun Day for First Grade

First Grade Teachers at Rockhill Elementary planned a Fall Fun Day for their students on October 15th.

Students had the opportunity to experience 8 different learning centers.  Those special

centers include:

Learning about the Life Cycle of a Pumpkin; Fall Cooperative Teamwork Games including

gourd relays; Autumn in the Kitchen which involves getting to decorate fall cupcakes made

by Rockhill grandparent, Joyce Bland; Fall Film Festival; Making Torn Paper Pumpkins;

Rubbings and Writings, which will let the students learn about many different types of

leaves and nature findings; Fall Collage and Mural Creation and Story time, Songs and a

Square Dancing lesson.  Also, the first grade students will all be wearing special “I am a

first grader” t-shirts provided by SPARK.  SPARK, “Supporting Partnerships to Assure

Ready Kids,” is a multi-year initiative funded by the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in partnership

with the Sisters of Charity Foundation of Canton.  Teachers Addie Bender, Crystal Haba,

Janice Monks, Kate Sciortino and Trisha Sinkovitz worked together to create this

exciting day.  They were assisted by many parent volunteers and Mount Union College
student practitioners.

Special Chess Time in Mrs. Funk's Class
Students in Mrs. Funk’s class had a special guest to help them with chess.  Mrs. Funk’s dad (Ron Zikovich) was in town from Pittsburgh and it just so happens that he loves to play chess.  He visited Mrs. Funk’s class on Tuesday and played chess with students.  A great learning time was had by all.

Tech News - Distance Learning

All Rockhill first grade students were able to participate in a distance learning program with The Center for Puppetry Arts in Atlanta, GA. Students reviewed what they already knew about butterflies and they learned a lot of new information.  Students also created a string or marionette butterfly puppet during the program.
What a fun way to learn about butterflies and a little about puppets too!
